This page provides information about adoption in Wales, and the support Adoption UK can provide to the country's adopters and prospective adopters, through a dedicated office based in Cardiff.

We operate in Wales from an office in Cardiff, staffed by Development Manager Ann Bell, who is both an adoptee and an adoptive parent, and by helpline adviser Helen Griffiths. 

We work closely with many of the 24 Adoption Agencies which operate in Wales to provide ongoing support to adoptive families. 

All members of Adoption UK in Wales receive monthly e-news letters to containing  information about support groups, training events and other current news relevant to adoptive families.

Dedicated Helpline

Dedicated support for Wales is available from Adoption UK's Wales Helpline from Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm.

Call 0844 848 7900 and you'll be given the option to connect to the Wales Helpline.

Outside of these hours, feel free to leave a message, speak to the wider Helpline team or email your enquiry using the form on the Contact the helpline page.

Calls cost up to 5p per minute from a landline and up to £1.50 per minute from mobiles. Charges from landlines reflect the minimum costs associated with running the helplines.

Support groups

Adoption UK currently runs support groups in:

  • Newport
  • Cardiff
  • Vale of Glamorgan
  • Swansea
  • Powys. 
In addition there are groups for gay and lesbian adopters, adoptive dads and grandparents whose adopted children now have their own children.  

The network of support groups is constantly growing – to find out when meetings are held and if there is a group near you, ring the helpline. 

Training and support

Adoption UK runs a range of popular training workshops, conferences and seminars on issues such as Getting ready for Placement to Parenting Adopted Teenagers to Children Who Struggle at School. A number of these events will take place in Wales.

Adoption UK's acclaimed six-day training programme 'It's a Piece of Cake' also runs regularly.

Inset training is available for schools and CAMHS teams and other groups on the needs of adoptive families. A  bilingual (Welsh / English) booklet is available entitled : A Schools Guide to Working with Adoptive Parents.

Welsh Advisory Group

Adoption UK in Wales is represented by the Welsh Advisory Group, a group of adoptive parents and practitioners with local knowledge who provide advice on adoption policy and practise issues.

Their advice is used both to develop Adoption UK’s services for adopters and prospective adopters, and to respond to government.

Policy work and campaigning

Adoption UK is representing the views of adoptive parents in Wales on the Expert Advisory Group on Adoption which the Welsh Government has set up.  The Welsh Government plans to create a single national adoption service to improve the adoption service in Wales.

Adoption UK is involved in several research projects and constantly campaigns on behalf of adoptive parents.

Mabwysiadu yng Nghymru

Rydym yn gweithio yng Nghymru o swyddfa yng Nghaerdydd. Y staff yno yw'r Rheolwr Datblygu Ann Bell, sy'n berson gafodd ei mabwysiadu ac yn rhiant sy'n mabwysiadu ei hun, a chynghorydd y llinell gymorth, Helen Griffiths. 

Rydym yn gweithio'n agos gyda llawer o'r 24 Asiantaeth Fabwysiadu sy'n gweithredu yng Nghymru i ddarparu cefnogaeth barhaus i deuluoedd sy'n mabwysiadu. 

Mae pob aelod o Adoption UK yng Nghymru'n derbyn llythyrau e-newyddion misol sy'n cynnwys gwybodaeth am grwpiau cefnogi, digwyddiadau hyfforddi a newyddion cyfredol arall sy'n berthnasol i deuluoedd sy'n mabwysiadu.

Grwpiau Cefnogi yng Nghymru

Ar hyn o bryd mae Adoption UK yn cynnal grwpiau cefnogi yng Nghasnewydd, Caerdydd, Bro Morgannwg, Abertawe a Phowys. Ar ben hyn, mae grwpiau ar gyfer mabwysiadwyr hoyw a lesbiaidd, tadau sy'n mabwysiadu a neiniau a theidiau y mae eu plant mabwysiedig bellach yn rieni i'w plant eu hunain. Hyfforddiant a chefnogaeth

Bydd nifer o gyrsiau hyfforddi'n digwydd yng Nghymru dros y ddwy flynedd nesaf; i gael gwybod mwy, cysylltwch â Swyddfa Cymru.

Gwahoddir pob mabwysiadwr sy'n byw yng Nghymru i gysylltu â ni i siarad am y mathau o wasanaethau cefnogi yr hoffent eu gweld yn cael eu sefydlu neu i siarad am wirfoddoli yng Nghymru, drwy ffonio 02920 230 neu drwyebost.

Defnyddir eu cyngor i ddatblygu gwasanaethau Adoption UK i fabwysiadwyr a darpar fabwysiadwyr, ac i ymateb i'r llywodraeth.

Gwaith polisi ac ymgyrchu

Mae Adoption UK yn cynrychioli barn rhieni sy'n mabwysiadu yng Nghymru ar y Grŵp Cynghori Arbenigol ar Fabwysiadu sydd wedi ei sefydlu gan Lywodraeth Cymru. Bwriad Llywodraeth Cymru yw sefydlu un gwasanaeth mabwysiadu cenedlaethol er mwyn gwella'r gwasanaeth mabwysiadu yng Nghymru.
